Spanish 21: Basic Strategy for Hard Totals

Spanish 21 is indeed an exciting game and applying some basic strategy during the game can help you in gaining advantage over the house. For hard totals in Spanish 21, the general playing strategy is to always stand on hard totals of 18 or higher and hit on hard totals of eight or lesser.

Aside from this general hard total strategy in Spanish 21, you need to follow the following strategy in playing Spanish 21 to have some advantage over the house.

For a hard total nine, you need to double down on the initial two cards if the dealer's up card is six. You need to hit for all the other up cards of the dealer. If your hard total nine is composed of three cards, then hit against the dealer's up card of six.

For a hard total ten, you need to double down if the dealer's up card is two through seven, and hit against the dealer's up card of eight or higher.

For a hard total 11, you need to double down if the dealer's up card is two through eight, and hit against the dealer's up card of nine or higher.

For a hard total 12, you must always hit for another card.

For a hard total 13, you must hit if the dealer's up card is two, three, four, seven, or higher. Stand if the dealer's up card is five or six. If your hard total 13 is composed of five or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is five or six.

For a hard total 14, you must hit if the dealer's up card is two, three, seven, or higher. If your hard total 14 is composed of four or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is four. If your hard total 14 is composed of five or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is five or six.

For a hard total 15, hit if the dealer's up card is seven or higher. If your hard total 15 is composed of four or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is two. If your hard total 15 is composed of five or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is three or four. If your hard total 15 is composed of six cards, hit if the dealer's up card is five or six.

For a hard total 16, you must surrender if the dealer's up card is an Ace, if not, hit if the dealer's up card is seven or higher. If your hard total 16 is composed of five or more cards, hit if the dealer's up card is two. If your hard total 16 is composed of six cards, hit if the dealer's up card is three or four.

For a hard total 17, you must surrender if the dealer's up card is an Ace, if not, stand if the dealer's up card is eight, nine, or ten. If your hard total 17 is composed of six cards, stand, if not, then hit.
