The History of Blackjack

The game of Blackjack is believed to be as old as the discovery of the card itself. Then again, no amount of documentation could prove the case. As with some other card games, the traces of Blackjack are at times blurry.

The earliest and most believable Blackjack beginning was found in France during the 1600s, where a very similar game was found. Although the French game Vingt En Un is not exactly of the same rules as we know now as Blackjack, it has a very close resemblance. The French phrase, for one, means '21'.

The name Blackjack was drawn from Vingt En Un's ideal hand, which is characterized by a Jack and an Ace of Spades, hence the term. Interestingly, a similar game in Italy is also taking flight. In Seven and a Half, almost the same rules as the modern Blackjack and Vingt En Un apply. A little lter, the game was brought to the American shore, where it gained more strength than ever. In North America, at that time, no existing laws prohibit man from enjoying a game of cards so people are able to freely enjoy the Blackjack to the fullest. Soon enough, gambling professionals took notice of the game's potential to deliver winnings through developing the skills for it. Hence, they introduced strategies that will give the player an advantage over the dealer or the house. At the turn of the 19th century, Blackjack is almost every where in the United States. Unfortunately, the American government ceased the freedom that the gambling industry enjoyed over the last century. Gambling activities, including Blackjack, was reduced to become an underground game until Las Vegas was born out of a Nevada law.

Since then, there have been no turning back for Blackjack and several other casino games. Las Vegas, well considered as the gambling capital of the world, paid home to countless casino hotels. With studies pertaining to Blackjack strategies made every now and then, the game's popularity boomed. Several prestigious names were born out of the dedication to crack the codes in reducing the House advantage and give Blackjack aficionados better winning chances.

There are currently countless Blackjack books in the market documenting what the experts labored for years. They sell because they worked for some people who let out the word to the world.
